Airport transfer
Zanzibar Airport to Nungwi is the island's longest common transfer — about 1 hour 15 minutes north. Book a private car with a fixed fare and meet and greet.
You head north past Bububu and Mahonda on the main west-coast road, through Kinyasini and up to the northern tip. It is the busiest road on the island in its first half, so the timing varies more than any other route: quiet at dawn, slow between 4pm and 6pm.
Because Nungwi is far, it is the route where a pre-booked car saves the most — airport taxi prices for the north are negotiated hard on arrival. If you are connecting to Kendwa, it is the same road with a turning a few kilometres earlier.
Fares depend on your exact hotel and vehicle, so RAFIKI quotes them live rather than publishing a list that goes out of date.
