Airport transfer
A private transfer from Zanzibar Airport (ZNZ) to Paje takes roughly 50 minutes across the middle of the island. Fixed fare, named driver at arrivals.
The road out of the airport skirts Stone Town and then runs due east through Tunguu and the farming villages of the interior before dropping onto the south-east coast. It is a single tarmac road, in good condition, with a short stretch of speed bumps through each village. Most cars make it in about 50 minutes; allow longer in the late afternoon when school traffic builds around Tunguu.
Paje hotels sit along a sand track behind the beach, so the last few hundred metres can be slow and some smaller guesthouses are reached on foot from the nearest turning. Tell us the property name when you book and the driver will already know the access point. If you land after dark, the drive is still straightforward — the road is fully surfaced.
Fares depend on your exact hotel and vehicle, so RAFIKI quotes them live rather than publishing a list that goes out of date.
Book a Zanzibar airport transfer to Paje →Around 50 minutes in normal conditions. Late afternoon traffic near Tunguu can add 10–15 minutes.
The fare depends on your vehicle and your exact hotel. Enter your property in the RAFIKI transfer tool and the fixed price appears before you pay — no negotiating at arrivals.
Dala-dalas run to Paje from Darajani in Stone Town, not from the airport, and they do not carry much luggage. For an arrival with bags, a private transfer is the practical option.
